Three Ryanair planes have had to make emergency landings in Faro this December
A Ryanair aircraft, travelling from London to Lisbon, made an emergency landing today at the International Gago Coutinho Airport in Faro.
A Boeing 737-8AS serving flight FR1080/RYR945Q from Stansted Airport in London to Lisbon had to be diverted to the Algarvian airport due to an engine malfunction.
The aircraft, which had other flights scheduled for today which were cancelled, landed without issues and with all passengers safely, a source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command told Lusa news agency.
The source added that the Airport Emergency Intervention Plan was activated at noon, but the team of 69 operatives and 30 vehicles did not have to intervene as the landing was successful.
Lusa says it tried to obtain more details about the incident from ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, which had yet to respond.
This was the third emergency landing by a Ryanair plane in Faro this December. The first happened on Tuesday, December 5, when a plane which had departed from the UK and was en-route to Morocco had to land at the airport when the pilot felt unwell. The second involved a plane which had departed from Manchester and was heading to the Spanish island of Tenerife when it was forced to land due to an engine failure.
