Tourist office opens in Vila Real de Santo António

Tourist office provides important information for tourists

A new tourist office opened last week in Vila Real de Santo António.

Co-managed by the Algarve tourism board (RTA) and the municipal council of Vila Real de Santo António, the tourist office was inaugurated as part of the 248th anniversary celebrations of the foundation of VRSA.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by RTA president André Gomes and local mayor Álvaro Araújo, who highlighted the tourist office’s importance as a new hub for important information about local attractions, events and the borough’s cultural and natural heritage.

It is located in the town’s historic area on Rua Conselheiro Frederico Ramires and is manned by a “dedicated team, contributing significantly to the experience of tourists who choose to visit the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António and the Algarve region,” the local council says in a press communiqué.

The council adds that the opening of the tourist office is especially important considering that the borough is the 11th in Portugal with most overnight stays, having registered over one million in 2023.

VRSA mayor Álvaro Araújo announced at the ceremony that the Monte Gordo tourist office is due to reopen in September, “filling a gap that has existed for some years.”

Meanwhile, RTA boss André Gomes said that the Algarve’s 21 tourist offices provided face-to-face assistance to around 400,000 tourists in 2023.
