A €2 across the board tourist tax for any cruiseship passengers docking in Lisbon comes into force today, ostensibly to be included in whatever tourist package the passenger has paid. Ports board president Carlos Correia concedes there are still a few “technical questions” that will need to be resolved, but in theory the new levy is now in force, and remains €2 however many nights the cruiseship passengers stay in the capital. Lisbon first adopted a tourist tax for visitors’ overnight stays in 2016, but this is the first time a tax has been applied to passengers on cruiseships.
