Train links Faro to Braga in six hours

Portugal will feel that bit smaller during the Euro 2004, thanks to the train links that will allow travellers to go from Faro to Braga in less than six hours between June 12 and July 4. Bernardo Torres, from the Coordination Group of the Collective Transport system, said: “We are currently finalising contingency plans for the city routes.” Around 50,000 English fans are expected to visit Portugal for Euro 2004 and they will have several additional trains laid on for them. The authorities are mindful that there will be a concentration of English fans in the Algarve and the fact that Sven-Goran Eriksson’s team will play in Lisbon and Coimbra. So seven extra trains have been laid on between the Algarve and Coimbra, each with capacity for 1,000. In addition, three special trains will make the connection between Lisbon and Coimbra, with capacity for 480 people.
