Portugal’s National Association of Public Road Haulage Operators (ANTRAM) is campaigning for fleet renewal and professional diesel as part of next year’s budget. “We need measures to support the replacement of fleets so that, even if they run on diesel, [they have] more modern engines, more modern equipment, with carbon footprint reductions of around 30%,” Antram vice-president Gustavo Paulo Duarte, told Lusa on the sidelines of the conference “Supervision and Prevention in the Energy Sector”, organised by the National Entity for the Energy Sector (ENSE) in Lisbon, arguing that decarbonisation through electrification is not applicable to the road haulage sector – therefore the solution is to try to improve it through practices that are within the companies” reach.
