Xarém is a beloved dish in the Algarve
Moncarapacho, a small village near Olhão, is gearing up for the third edition of its ‘Mostra de Xarém’, a gastronomic event which shines the spotlight on one of the Algarve’s most traditional dishes.
Xarém (sometimes spelled xerém) is a corn porridge that can be served with a variety of ingredients, most commonly shellfish in the Algarve.
The event in Moncarapacho, scheduled for Sunday, March 3 at noon, will allow visitors to try these more traditional types of xarém as well as others featuring chickpeas, peas, or codfish.
The Moncarapacho monthly market will also be taking place at the same time and location (Pavilhão de Eventos) as the gastronomic event, allowing visitors to also do some shopping. There will also be live music entertainment by Luís Pedro.
Admission will be free.
