Razgatlioglu achieved a record 13th straight Superbike victory
The Algarve International Racetrack (AIA) in Portimão saw history being made on Sunday by Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu, who achieved his 13th straight victory in the FIM Superbike World Championship – a new Superbike record.
Razgatlioglu, competing for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, finished Race 1 of the Pirelli Portuguese Round nearly three seconds (+2.980s) ahead of Italian rider Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) and just over three seconds (+3.251s) ahead of third-placed English rider Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK).
The Turkish rider then followed this up with another victory in Race 2, who finished ahead of Italian rival Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) by just 0.035s, with Alex Lowes taking third place yet again (+6.299s).
“It’s been an incredible weekend,” Razgatlioglu said after the race, cited by the WorldSBK website. “I have 54 wins in total and I’m really happy. In the last race, I was fighting with Nicolo (Bulega) and Alvaro (Bautista) but in general, I’m really happy. It’s very special because every day, we are becoming more like a legend! I feel like we’re a family in WorldSBK and with the BMW, we are at the level to win every weekend. I don’t know when this streak will finish but the feeling is good and I’m just trying to push for the win.”
