TVDE drivers – those working for online platforms UBER and BOLT – were on strike today in various parts of the country. But the strike had little effect. A source from Uber told Lusa early this afternoon “the platform is not feeling any impact (…) When you open the app to request a vehicle, everything is working as usual, the waiting times for a driver to arrive are normal,” said the source, adding that the platform “respects everyone’s protest” and is not doing anything to jeopardise it. Drivers protesting are demanding better working conditions. Among the reasons for the stoppage, which in Lisbon is expected to last 24 hours, are the cost of journeys which, at the moment, partners and drivers consider to be “at the threshold of profitability for companies”, with protesters calling for the kilometre to be paid at a minimum of €0.70 cents.
