Two of Quarteira’s most popular events cancelled

Two of Quarteira’s biggest and most popular events – Petiscos do Pescador gastronomic event and Sou Quarteira music festival – have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision boils down to the fact that both events would bring together large groups of people, which Loulé Council says it wants to avoid in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

Petiscos do Pescador was due to be held between May 29 and 31. It takes place every year to pay tribute to the local fishermen and their important contribution to local gastronomy.

One of the highlights of the event is the ‘Lavada’, a demonstration on the beach of how the fish is brought onto land. The event also includes live music and, of course, delicious food to taste.

Meantime, Festival Sou Quarteira was scheduled to take place on August 22 and 23 and is a highlight of the town’s summer agenda.

It was due to be held for the third year in a row, having attracted popular Portuguese artists in its first two editions such as rappers Carlão and Sam The Kid.

The local council says the festival will be returning in 2021.
