Ceasefire ends 20 years of violence

A truce has been agreed between the government and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, which took effect on Tuesday. It gives rebels three weeks to assemble at points in southern Sudan, where the regional government will protect them and peace talks will follow. Humanitarian organisations say that they are equipped to assist the women and children who were captured by the LRA and forced into marriage or used as slaves or soldiers. They are to be released as part of the ceasefire deal.
