The joining of Ukraine to Spain and Portugal’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup was confirmed in a special ceremony at UEFA headquarters yesterday, and has seen President Zelenskyy describe it as “yet another symbol of faith in Ukraine’s victory”. This is without doubt: there is no way the bid could include Russia… And reinforcing optimism for Ukraine’s victory comes news that troops continue to push back Russian invaders, and have hoisted the Ukrainian flag now in numerous villages previously under Russian control.
