Ukraine’s Zelenskyy welcomed by Marcelo and Montenegro

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy landed this afternoon at Lisbon’s Figo Maduro military aerodrome, where he was welcomed by Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and prime minister Luís Montenegro.

The plane which transported Zelenskyy from Brussels touched down at the aerodrome at around 2.50pm.

The Ukrainian leader was welcomed with “military honours” and the Portuguese Air Force band performed the national anthems of both countries.

Zelenskyy was expected to have visited Portugal earlier this month, but the trip was cancelled because the military situation in Karhkiv escalated significantly.

As the Resident had already reported, Portugal and Ukraine will sign a ten-year bilateral cooperation agreement.
