Ukrainian music, culture and art are the main attractions of FELIZONDA
FELIZONDA, a festival which shines the spotlight on Ukrainian music, culture and art, will return to Lagos for its third edition between Friday and Sunday (August 23-25).
Held for the first time in 2022, the year that Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, the event aims to serve as a celebration of Ukrainian heritage for Ukrainians living in Portugal as well as for visitors interested in learning more about the country’s traditions, food and culture.
The festival’s culinary offerings will feature iconic dishes such as Borscht, the renowned Ukrainian soup; Golybci, a savoury snack, and Varenik, a traditional Ukrainian drink, along with an array of traditional Ukrainian sweets.
A key highlight of the festival will take place on Saturday, August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day, when the Ukrainian flag will be ceremoniously raised at 7pm in a “formal and symbolic act of solidarity.”
The festival will also feature lively evening entertainment, including Ukrainian artists and DJs on Friday and Saturday, and a performance by the popular Poor Man’s Band on Sunday night.
FELIZONDA is not just a cultural celebration but also a call for solidarity, as it aims to raise funds and gather donations to support humanitarian aid for victims of the ongoing war in Ukraine. ORANTA, the Support Association for the Ukrainian Community in Portugal which organises the event, has been actively involved in humanitarian efforts since its inception, having already sent 16 ambulances to aid war victims, including both soldiers and civilians. During the festival, four more vehicles, ready to be dispatched to Ukraine, will be on display, bringing the total number of vehicles carrying aid sent by the association to 20.
The festival will take place at the old school in front of Lagos town hall from 4pm to 1am, with free admission.
