An illustrated talk by Seán O’Hara of the Northern California Mediterranean Garden Society will take place on Wednesday, October 3 at the lecture room of Museu do Traje in São Brás de Alportel.
All are welcome to attend the free talk that starts at 10am.
Sean O’Hara has been making gardens and providing horticultural consulting services to homeowners in the greater San Francisco Bay Area since 1970. He is active in a variety of local horticultural groups and educational gardens.
Seán says of this most recent version of a talk created for the 2016 San Francisco Flower & Garden Show: “The response has always been very good – even those in the audience who felt they were already knowledgeable regarding the mediterranean climate have told me that I gave them many things to think about relating to their personal approach to gardening. I have been musing on what sort of extra ‘California context’ I might add to my talk. I’ve witnessed some Europeans’ reaction to our region first-hand, so I have a few ideas about presenting what might not be obvious.”
Seán’s own hortulus-aptus (a garden suited to its purpose) has provided a space for him to experiment in from 1975 to the present (43 years) in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since his retirement from the University of California Digital Library, he has been busy developing an online presence for mediterranean gardeners worldwide, travelling with his wife Deborah, undertaking speaking engagements and writing. This is their first visit to Portugal.
