Provisional data released today by Statistics Portugal (INE) show that the unemployment rate fell to 6.2% in July – 0.2 percentage points lower than in June and equal to the same month in 2023. According to INE, the unemployed population (331,800) “decreased concerning the three comparison periods: 3.7%, 4.6% and 0.6%, respectively” in July. In July, the labour force (5,373,000) decreased compared to June (0.4%) and April 2024 (0.7%), but increased compared to July 2023 (0.5%). INE’s data has not mentioned youth unemployment, which taken on its own, is generally much too high.
