United Arab Emirates to reopen embassy in Lisbon

The embassy of the United Arab Emirates – mysteriously closed since at least last February – is poised to reopen. Minister for Foreign Affairs João Gomes Cravinho has tweeted a photograph of himself and the UAE’s minister of State Reem Al Hashimy, saying the pair have had a “good conversation” and that he himself is “very pleased” that the embassy will reopen. There is no date for the reopening, but Mr Gomes Cravinho writes “we have a lot of matters to work on in 2023, bilaterally and multilaterally”. It remains unclear why the embassy, in Praça do Príncipe Real closed in the first place.
