Two young adventurers, Carl and Ellie, both dream of going to a Lost Land in South America. 70 years later, Ellie has died and Carl remembers the promise that he made to her that one day he would go. The now 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl finally fulfils their lifelong dream and ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to South America. However, his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip with him; a very optimistic eight- year-old explorer called Russell.
