Viceroy at Ombria Algarve hotel opens on October 1

“The overall concept is to promote the lifestyle you’d find in a village” – Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha, GM

The Viceroy at Ombria Algarve hotel, located in Tôr, around 7km north of Loulé, will officially open its doors on Tuesday, October 1, promising a new concept in luxury hospitality for the region.

Nestled at the heart of the Ombria resort, the hotel will feature “76 luxe guestrooms and suites, 65 residences, and exceptional leisure facilities – all surrounded by miles of citrus groves, fig and carob trees, small farms, and villages with cobblestone streets”.

With a wide range of F&B options, an 18-hole golf course, spa, Kids Club, swimming pools, gym, congress centre and a series of experiences, the hotel promises to show guests the rural charms of the inland Algarve.

In an article published in the Resident earlier this month, Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha, general manager of Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, said: “We follow three guidelines: sustainability, localism, and a top-level experience. The overall concept is to promote the lifestyle you’d find in a village. The buildings are separated from each other, there are several streets, a main square, and the restaurants are spread out. The idea is for guests to explore, walk around and savour the atmosphere.”

The resort’s first stone was laid in 2017 and marketing of the residential units, under a tourism operation contract, began in 2020. Four years later, there are only three units left for sale in this first phase of the project.

For commercial director João Richard Costa, Ombria stands out in many ways: “Firstly, we offer guests and owners ample space. The room sizes are much larger compared to other five-star hotels. The largest is around 300 square metres. In recent years, no resort of this level and positioning has opened in the Algarve. We’re going to be a novelty in the hotel industry and the challenge is to offer an unforgettable experience. And we will succeed,” he states.
