Vilamoura Marina desalination plant in operation

Installed at the new marina designed to accommodate large vessels, the equipment optimises water resources and activities relying on non-potable water.

The new Vilamoura Marina, which was inaugurated at the end of 2024 for large vessels, now features a fully operational desalination plant.

This new equipment was installed not only to optimise the Vilamoura Marina’s water resources but also to support activities such as washing vessels in the New Marina, shipyard operations, irrigation, and other uses of non-potable water.

“With the desalination plant, the Marina reinforces its contribution to preserving water resources and a more sustainable future, continuously promoting the efficient and responsible management of its resources”, says the management.

For the desalination process, the saltwater treatment employs reverse osmosis to extract water from the interior basin of Vilamoura Marina, supported by an automated system that monitors and facilitates communication with the responsible team, thereby maximising efficiency.

“Last Saturday, March 22, World Water Day was celebrated, and in that sense, this news could not have come at a better time; it makes us very proud. With this desalination unit, we reaffirm our role as a pioneering marina in promoting responsible and sustainable environmental practices in nautical infrastructure”, says Isolete Correia, CEO of Vilamoura Marina.
