“Vistas” photography exhibition by Jacob Gils in Loulé

Show runs until Saturday, December 21 at In the Pink gallery

Danish photographer Jacob Gils has established himself as one of the frontrunners of impressionistic abstraction in the photographic medium, capturing movement in a unique way by overlaying a multitude of images into a single shot.

The views that Gils captures are often of moving objects, such as Lisbon’s famous trams, symbolic of Portugal’s capital. But movement can also be the wind in the pines and palm trees of the Algarve.

Through the use of multiple exposures, Jacob Gils generates engaging interpretations of iconic objects, structures, and landscape vistas.

At first glance, these multi-point images appear out of focus or shaken, but in fact, they consist of many different, very sharp photographs of the same motifs, which are carefully combined to offer an illusion of being in motion.

The series by Jacob Gils combines a strong aesthetical point of view with meticulous attention to technical detail. His works are concerned with giving shape to temporal and spatial aspects inherent in all visual experience.

The show is complemented by new and favorite photographic vistas of Portugal on the first floor by In The Pink’s previously exhibited artists such as Albert Watson, Christian Chaize, Nuno Cera, João Mariano, Vasco Celio, and, for the first time, Teresa Freitas.

In The Pink will be closed for winter holidays from December 21, 2024 until January 16, 2025.
