According to figures released today from APREN, the Portuguese Renewable Energy Association, wind power accounted for 38% of the electricity generated in Portugal in October – a month in which renewables accounted for 78.6%. Between January and October, 38,229 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity were generated in the country – 81.8% of which came from renewable sources. This means, says APREN, that in the first 10 months of the year, the incorporation of renewable electricity increased by 14% compared to the same period last year and contributed to a 15.7% drop in fossil fuel electricity production compared to figures recorded in 2023.
