Woman arrested after man stabbed to death in Montijo on New Year’s Eve

2nd woman also stabbed in ‘quarrel’ outside home trio shared

A woman, aged 36, has been arrested following the stabbing to death of a man of roughly the same age in Montijo (Setúbal district) last night.

A second woman was stabbed in the leg in what appears to have been a ‘quarrel’ that broke out among the trio outside a house they all shared in Rua Soeiro Pereira Gomes.

By the time police arrived, the man was already dead, with “wounds to his neck, allegedly caused by a bladed weapon”, a source from the local fire brigade told Lusa news agency.

The source added that all three were found at the entrance to the property they shared. Both women were suffering from minor injuries, and taken to Barreiro Hospital A&E.

PSP police arrested the 36-year-old. The second woman, aged 45, suffered injuries to her leg as she tried to avoid the aggressions, writes Lusa.

The incident was called into authorities just before 11pm.

UPDATE: Reports on Tuesday named the dead man as Flávio Seabra, aged 32. The arrested woman was a cousin, writes Correio da Manhã – and the motives for the violence “a banale discussion that rapidly escalated”. ND
