Workshop ‘ready to go’ just needs venue and people who want to help Ukraine

Latest Oranta association initiative gets underway as 4x4s ‘on way’ to frontline

The Algarve-based Oranta humanitarian association is celebrating the departure this week of its latest 4x4s equipped for the frontline in Ukraine. They should be at the border in Poland by the weekend, and in Ukraine this time next week.

In the meantime, the association has a new initiative for which it seeks ‘people interested’ and a venue.

The following video gives an idea:

basically, “it’s very simple”, says Roman, the president of Oranta.

The plan is to make camouflage meshes; if possible, one to go with every vehicle that leaves Portugal from Oranta’s workshops in future. This way, medical personnel in Ukraine will receive “the full package”: a working vehicle equipped to evacuate the injured in safety, and the wherewithal to help keep it concealed from enemy drones when waiting for call outs.

The ‘making of the meshes’ is taught by one of Roman’s relatives, Tania, who is coming to Portugal next week for a month. She will be bringing with her the material needed to make a large 6m ‘mesh’, and would like to ‘pass on’ the knowledge here on how it is done, so that Portugal too can start producing them.

The hope is also that by taking part in a workshop like this, people will be able to talk and learn a bit more about the conflict going on on Europe’s border.

What Oranta needs, however, is the ‘right space’: it will need to be a large space (see main image), at least 6 metres long, in which a wooden frame can be constructed, so that people can then start ‘making the mesh’.

Anyone interested in taking part, in suggesting or offering a venue, should contact Oranta on 920 606 043; email oranta.pt@gmail.com

This initiative has already involved schoolchildren in Ukraine (as seen in the video) but due to the situation in the country, it will be vastly helped if schoolchildren outside of a war zone also get involved.
