Portimão welcomes the seventh round of the World Superbike Championship
The World Superbike Championship is returning to the Algarve between August 9 and 11, promising three days of heart-pounding action at the Algarve International Autodrome (AIA) in Portimão.
A completely new programme for the event has been revealed, with all track activities taking place in the afternoon after 12pm, leaving “open room for multiple activities aimed at fans.”
“We want this to truly be a party, a celebration of the WorldSBK in the year that the Algarve International Autodrome celebrates its 15th anniversary. That is why we are preparing, together with the organiser of the championship, a series of moments both inside and outside the paddock for motorcycling lovers to experience something totally different, with many activities aimed at fans who travel to the circuit,” the racetrack said in a statement to the press.
The World Superbike Championship is a special event for the racetrack, given that it was the first motorsports event to take place at the circuit after it was inaugurated in 2008.
“The WorldSBK has always been a part of the AIA, and in such a special year for us, we want to celebrate together with everyone who visits us,” the racetrack adds.
Ticket prices for the main event on Sunday begin at €20 per person, while prices for the entire weekend of activities start at €25pp. Tickets can be purchased online.
The Pirelli Portuguese Round will be the seventh race of the Superbike season, with five already completed and two more still to go: Prosecco Doc UK Round (July 12-14) and Czech Round (July 19-21). Turkish racer Toprak Razgatlıoğlu leads the championship standings at the moment, followed by Italy’s Nicolo Bulega in second and Spain’s Alvaro Bautista in third.
