The World Surf League (WSL) European qualifying circuit championship at Santa Barbara Beach, in the Azores, has been cancelled due to storms. “It was a difficult decision in a difficult week,” said event organiser Rodrigo Herédia. “Basically, we are between two big storms. We only had a small window to compete, but the swell is still too big. Herédia, a former Portuguese national champion (1993) said the hopes the event will return next season, not least because it is an “important event” for the Azores calendar.
