Yellow vests come out in support of nation’s truckers

Portugal’s ‘yellow vests’ (an offshoot of the French citizens movement that caused mayhem in Paris earlier this year) are coming out in support of the nations truckers.

Reports today claim yellow vests will be organising go-slows on two major Lisbon motorways – the A1 north to Porto and A2 south to the Algarve – on Monday, along with “a possible blockade of the April 25 bridge”.

The government “has been informed” and as temperatures rise the coming week is starting to look like a minefield.

Runs on fuel pumps have started ahead of the deliveries strike planned to start on Monday – and syndicates are pulling out all the stops to ‘challenge’ the government’s plan for extensive ‘minimum services’, if necessary all the way to the European Court of Human Rights.

At issue, they say, is the right to strike, which they believe is being undermined.

Rallying to the truck drivers’ cause, the Facebook page of Portugal’s yellow vest movement tells followers who do not want to take part in the go-slow that a ‘pedestrian demo’ is also planned outside the Republican Assembly building from 11am.
