Yellow warning issued for Algarve as temperatures soar starting Thursday

Ten districts in the centre and south of the country, including the district of Faro, will be under yellow warning due to the heat from Thursday, August 15.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued yellow warnings for Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, Setúbal, and Faro from 09h00 on Thursday until 18h00 Friday.

The warning for Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora, and Beja will also be in effect until midnight on Saturday.

The yellow alert is activated when there is a potential danger for particular activities based on the weather conditions.

Today, a slight rise in the highest temperature is anticipated, particularly in the Northern and inland areas of the central region.

Castelo Branco, with 34°C, will be the hottest district today, and Aveiro, Sines, and Sagres (24°C) will be the coolest. However, temperatures will rise starting Thursday and are expected to fluctuate between 38°C and 40°C in the country’s interior.
