Young man arrested for attempted murder in Vilamoura

PJ police tracked attempted murder suspect down to Vilamoura

PJ police have arrested a 21-year-old man in the Algarve resort of Vilamoura on suspicion of attempted murder.

In a statement to the press, the judicial police force says the case dates back to September 29 when the young man is suspected shooting a 24-year-old man in the municipality of Loulé.

It adds that the violent incident was related to unpaid debts and that the suspect was accompanied by another person.

Three shots were fired, one of which struck the victim, inflicting life-threatening injuries which could have proved fatal if the victim had not been immediately transported to the Algarve University Hospital Centre, according to PJ police.

Following an investigation, the suspect was tracked down to Vilamoura where he was arrested. Authorities were also able to recover the firearm believed to have been used.

In his initial court appearance, the suspect was subjected to preventive measures, including mandatory periodic check-ins at the local police station.

The case, currently overseen by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, remains under active investigation by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) in Loulé.
