Young man suspected of causing summer’s largest fire placed under house arrest

A 24-year-old arrested earlier this week on suspicion of having caused the largest fire this summer, in Oliveira de Azeméis, is to be placed under house arrest. The ‘factory worker’ who is believed to have started fires with a lighter as he rode around the Ossela area on his motorbike will remain in preventive custody pending the installation of an electronic bracelet. The Oliveira de Azeméis fire lasted almost a week, mid-September. It burned thousands of hectares of forestland and provoked the loss of at least two lives (both from heart failure).
