The GNR’s Christmas and New Year ‘safe travel’ campaigns have closed with a total of 21 deaths, 4,365 accidents, 80 serious injuries and 1,182 light injuries. More than 1,200 people were arrested over the holidays, the majority for drink-driving (669), some for driving without a licence (322), others for offences like drug trafficking (77), illegal possession of weapons (42) and theft (31).
