Albufeira hosts national wine showcase this weekend

Hundreds of producers bring rare and exclusive wines to three-day event

Albufeira is set to welcome wine lovers from across the country this weekend as the 15th Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal takes place between April 17 and April 19.

Held at the city’s Espaço Multiusos, the event will bring together around 100 winemakers from across Portugal, offering visitors the chance to sample a wide range of wines, from major labels to small-scale, independent producers.

Many of the wines on show are produced in limited quantities and are not available in supermarkets or typical wine shops, making the event a rare opportunity to discover and taste exclusive selections from across the country.

Over the years, the showcase has grown into a major attraction, drawing not only local residents but also tourists who travel specifically to attend the three-day event, organisers say.

Alongside wine tastings, the event will also highlight regional products from the Algarve, including gin, honey, liqueurs and medronho firewater.

The initiative also includes the 11th edition of the national wine competition Concurso de Vinhos de Portugal, where 130 wines from 12 regions were evaluated in blind tastings by a panel of 27 judges on April 11 and April 12. The results will be announced during the official dinner on Friday, April 17, allowing visitors to sample the award-winning wines throughout the weekend.

Visitors can enter the venue for €2 without tastings. A daily ticket including a tasting glass costs €7, while a three-day pass is available for €10.

Opening hours are from 3pm to 8pm on Friday, April 17, and from 3pm to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is organised by the Confraria do Bacchus de Albufeira in partnership with the municipal council and several regional and national entities.
