Lagos is preparing for the return of the TEDxPraça Gil Eanes next month.
With a programme centred on the theme “Metamorphosis – The Beauty of Change”, the event will take place on May 16 at the Lagos Cultural Centre and will bring together speakers and artists from different fields to explore the impact of human and collective transformation.
“Inspired by the exploratory spirit of Gil Eanes, a symbol of the courage to go beyond the known, TEDxPraça Gil Eanes 2026 invites the public to reflect on how we transform ourselves internally and how this influences the world around us,” organisers say.
According to event curator Elena Dimitrova, “change is inevitable, but it is in how we experience it that our true growth lies. ‘Metamorphosis’ is an invitation to introspection and action – a celebration of the courage to reinvent oneself.”
This year’s programme will feature talks, performances and interactive experiences, addressing topics such as self-knowledge, sustainability, innovation, art, science and community.
Over the course of a day of lectures and performances, the event will “explore the power of personal transformation, the dynamics of collective growth, and the lessons that the natural world offers us about adaptation and rebirth.”
“Each speaker will bring a unique perspective on the power of change – from personal stories of overcoming adversity to transformative visions of our collective future,” organisers say.
Dimitrova added: “We want the audience to leave the event different from how they entered – with new questions, new ideas and a renewed outlook on themselves and the world.”
Over the course of the day, the event will explore how individuals and communities adapt, evolve and respond to change, drawing inspiration from both human experience and the natural world.
Organisers say TEDxPraça Gil Eanes has become one of the Algarve’s notable idea-driven events, attracting both local residents and members of the international community.
TED, which supports the TEDx programme, describes it as a series of independently organised events designed to share ideas and spark discussion at a local level.
The event will run from 9am to 6pm, with tickets available online. Cost is €69 for general admission (plus €2 booking fee).
