The Algarve will host an event next month focusing on how spas are evolving from wellness spaces into tools for preventive health and longevity.
The Algarve Wellness & SPA Summit will take place on May 12 and May 13 at the Gambelas campus of the University of the Algarve in Faro.
The event is organised by ABC CoLAB – Ageing Better as part of the “SPA of the Future” project, co-funded by the Algarve 2030 programme.
Over two days, researchers and industry professionals from Portugal and abroad will come together to discuss trends and challenges in health and wellness tourism, with a strong focus on longevity and innovation in the spa sector.
Key topics include the transformation of spas into spaces for prevention and long-term health, sustainability and the replacement of chemical-based products with natural alternatives, and the integration of physical activity and nutrition into wellness programmes.
Discussions will also cover new service models and personalised customer experiences, as well as the Algarve’s positioning as a destination for health tourism.
The programme features a panel titled “What will the spa of the future look like?”, exploring how the sector could develop by 2040. Practical sessions and demonstrations of new approaches to nutrition and wellbeing are also planned.
The event is free to attend, although prior registration is required through ABC CoLAB’s social media channels.
Organisers say the summit has both regional and national relevance, bringing together tourism, healthcare and active ageing in a single forum.
