Policeman stabbed several times in Leiria police station

19-year-old with mental issues has been arrested

A 57-year-old PSP agent was stabbed several times – including in his neck – while inside the police station in Marrazes, in the borough of Leiria.

Mercifully, his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, albeit he has been kept under observation in Leiria Hospital.

The alleged attacker, a 19-year-old, was arrested by two of the injured agent’s colleagues, who caught up with him outside in the street.

It is not clear what prompted the attack. A police source has referred to the alleged perpetrator suffering mental problems. He had apparently been outside the police station the night before, throwing stones at the building. He is also understood to have made several abusive phone calls to the station early this morning.

The attack, which happened around 11am, is now being investigated by PJ police.
