With the ‘workings’ of Portuguese justice back in the public eye on various counts, the bizarre case of an influencer who admitted on air to running over a pedestrian in the rain (while looking at his mobile phone) is inching closer to the moment for a decision.
Do public prosecutors – who admit they have enough evidence to charge Tiago Grila – ‘prosecute’, or will they decide to archive the case that has left the victim complaining of permanent consequences?
SIC Notícias today stresses that PSP police want to see Grila charged on two counts – the crime of ‘offence to physical integrity’ and the crime of ‘failure to provide assistance’.
The ‘hit-and-run’ took place in 2024, close to the Bingo in Amadora – on a rainy evening.
It was only when the podcast was aired that a young woman – hit by a car and left lying on the road outside the Bingo in Amadora on a rainy evening in 2024 – realised Grila must have been talking about the accident that has left her, she says, in constant pain.
At this point, Grila became quite coy – even going on a holiday to Angola to try and escape the stress.
Today, SIC refers to him as someone who has in the past had issues with gambling, alcohol and drugs. He portrays himself however as “a phenomenon” and “marketing genius”, and apparently has more than 100,000 followers.
Grila was made an official suspect in this case 18 months ago, but since that time he has not been charged.
