A play on words? Could be… since bene means Latin for “good” and lux (“more” in Latin) is a shortening of the word luxus, for “luxury”. But of course, it also has a geographical meaning: BeNeLux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) – where the entrepreneurial ‘Dutch Brothers’, Sem and Max Slings relocated from.
Since founding Slings Outdoor Living in 2024, the family business has gone from strength to strength, promoting the Dutch brand LIFE. “We’d grown up with LIFE furniture at home. It wasn’t available in Portugal, so we launched the business with it,” the Slings brothers recall. “A huge advantage of LIFE was the extensive range in various styles, materials, colours and functions. Customers love the ‘mix-and-match’ combinations.”
Sem and Max learned people were looking for different levels of quality and value, as furniture regionally is very expensive. After establishing themselves, more Dutch (and Belgian) brands were featured to attract a much wider market appeal.

These brands are consistent with high-end look and feel allowing us to cater to a broader audience. This works well since many of the collections share similar frames, colours, materials and design aesthetics.”
