‘21st century artisans’ display work at Vila Vita

The hard work of several artisans from around the Algarve who were involved in the ‘Artisans of the 21st Century’ programme included in the TASA project will be displayed today (July 26) at the Vila Vita Parc resort in Porches.

The exhibition starts at 5pm and will also feature a prize ceremony to award one of six apprentices, five master-craftsmen, the Proactivetur team behind the TASA project and the many other artisans who took part in the initiative.

As organisers explain, the ‘Artisans of the 21st century’ programme aims to “value the ancestral techniques of artisans which are an important part of the Algarve’s cultural legacy”.

Other goals are to make sure a new generation of artisans can turn their occupation into a job, and to raise awareness of the cultural, environmental and social value of craftwork in order to counter the tendency for these kinds of arts and crafts to disappear.

At the Vila Vita event, visitors will be able to feast their eyes on a display of new products bearing the TASA brand name, while also learning more about the techniques and the results of the training programme for the new artisans, the presentation of a new packaging for the overall TASA brand.

Visitors will also be able to work with the raw materials used by artisans in order to get a feel for the work.
