The Saint Andrew’s Society of the Algarve is a small group of Scots and other nationalities whose main aim is to promote things Scottish, but also to enjoy themselves. As per tradition the society will be holding its annual Saint Andrew’s Ball on Saturday, November 24 (nearest to Saint Andrew’s Day).
The event will once again be at the Penina Hotel, starting at 7pm sharp, where participants will be greeted by the skirl of the pipes played by piper Malcolm MacGillivray. Following a bubbly reception, there will be a “grand buffet” accompanied by wine, followed by coffee and Atholl Brose.
Afterwards, Scottish dancing will be to the accompaniment of the ever-present ceilidh band from Scotland, “The Sound of Islay”. Each dance will be talked and walked through beforehand so no need for beginners to hang back!
Doug McAdam, Chieftain, said: “This is a great opportunity to get out your glad rags and have a great time.”
Tickets cost €45 for society members and €47.50 for non-members. If you prefer not to drive and instead spend the night at the hotel after the ball, discounted special rates are available for participants (book directly with the hotel on 282 420 200 mentioning the ball).
