Portugal’s only PGA European Tour representative, Ricardo Santos, returned home earlier this week to defend his 2011 Quinta do Peru title.
Back in more modest surroundings following his best ever joint 10th place finish at the Avantha Masters in India last weekend, the 29-year-old Algarvean failed to shine during an opening three-above-par round of 75 however and had his work cut out to make up the lost ground on amateur champion Gonçalo Pinto who had established a seven-stroke lead.
