FOLLOWING AN anonymous tip off about strange goings on at a property in Veracruz, Mexico, several police officers stormed the house and discovered almost 100 crocodiles on the premises.
A total of 98 crocodiles were found in six swimming pools behind the house, all between 15 centimetres and 1.8 metres long. Officers from the local environmental protection agency were alerted to this battery farm for crocs and they gave the owner five days in which to produce all the relevant paperwork that show the origins of the reptiles.
Crocodiles are protected by Mexico’s environmental laws but for some people, the lure of making money from capturing them or breeding them and commercially farming them outweighs this. Their hide is tanned and used to make leather goods and their meat is considered a delicacy in many parts of the world.
