A PORTUGUESE man was detained at São Paulo’s international airport in Brazil when the authorities found his bag contained 200 canaries.
Brazil’s Agriculture Minister released a statement after the incident, which revealed that the airport’s customs officials found 65 of the 200 birds were dead.
The man, who flew from Peru to Brazil, is due to be charged with animal trafficking.
All of the birds who survived the journey were to be sent back to Peru in more humane conditions.
