The Algarve Oncology Association’s 12th Mamamaratona run that took place last Sunday along the Portimão riverside has raised €18,000 for people suffering from cancer in the Algarve.
On the day, almost 5,000 people showed up to take part in the 5km or 8km walk or run, and a selection of participants also chose to complete the event’s first half marathon, also in aid of the AOA.
Further supporting the battle against cancer, two seminars will take place this month to raise awareness among residents about cancer, particularly breast and colon cancer.
The first presentation will take place tomorrow (October 20) from 4pm at the auditorium of Faro’s School of Hoteliers and Tourism of the Algarve.
A week later, on October 27, also from 4pm, another session will be held at Portimão Museum. Supported and presented by the Oncology Association of the Algarve, the Caixa Agrícola do Algarve and CA Vida, the sessions aim to promote the prevention of cancer through early detection of the disease and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Attendance at the seminars will be free and presentations will be given in Portuguese.
