Cape Verde celebrated with special dinner

Algarve History Association continues its programme of presentations on Lusophone history and culture with an evening of Kabuverdianidade.

On Saturday December 14, Lynne Booker will make her presentation on the history, geography and culture of the archipelago of Cape Verde at Herdade da Corte, Tavira, at 6pm.

The culture of Cape Verde also includes its gastronomy and Catiza, who is herself Cape Verdean, will present a typical Cape Verdean dinner. Drinks and corn cakes will be available from 6pm and a buffet dinner will be served at 7.30pm.

Dishes will include the characteristic Cachupa rica (a stew of corn, onions, potatoes, beans, spices and meat) plus side dishes. Catiza uses authentic ingredients imported from Cape Verde.

This evening devoted to Cape Verdean culture will include descriptions and illustrations of Cape Verdean national music, and Catiza will also demonstrate their national dance. By the end of the evening, guests will understand the qualities of Morna and be able to dance to Batuque.

This evening gives an unusual and exciting opportunity to learn more of the history and to experience the culture of Cape Verde at first hand.

Lynne’s first degree is in Geography and most of her career was spent teaching history, geography and personal development. She ‘retired’ to the Algarve 15 years ago with her husband Peter.

Dinner costs €25 per person. Herdade da Corte is offering a special rate of €50 per couple for bed and breakfast for those who wish to stay the night.
