Charitable organisation Cáritas has seen demand for help from citizens in Braga increase by 100%. Says president of the local institution: “We’re at the red frontier” (meaning point where the situation is unsustainable). “We fear that we cannot respond to the level of demand”. Even in October, the signs were visible: the institution had almost 8,000 people incapable of making ends meet seeking support. This represents “is a duplication” of numbers for 2020, said João Nogueira.
