INTERNATIONAL DAY Against Child Labour was celebrated this week around the world.
Portugal, according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), is still presenting shameful numbers for a European Union state member, with approximately 24,000 children working in the agricultural sector and an estimated 4,000 children being exploited.
The ILO estimates that a total of 150 million children in the world are working in agricultural activities. This number represents almost 70 per cent of the children’s labour force.
