A political squabble has broken out in Faro because the local authority has voted not to install Christmas lights in the commercial areas and centre of the historic zone of the city. The opposition socialist party (PS) has accused the majority group (PSD/CDS-PP) of spending €340,000 on publicity to improve the image of the municipal authority instead of enhancing the Christmas atmosphere at what the PS claim would be a quarter of the cost.
