Church winge

Portugal’s Supreme Court of Justice has ruled that a firework accident that gravely injured a little girl seven years ago was the responsibility of the local parish in Ponte da Barca, responsible for the display. It has ordered the church to pay €110,000 in damages – but parish priest António Brito says “the church doesn’t have this money”. Talking to Correio da Manhã newspaper, he says the church will try collecting funds from the local community.
