Cocker spaniel survives 100ft cliff fall

A cocker spaniel had a very lucky escape after surviving a 100ft fall off a cliff and then a mile long swim to the safety of a yacht.

The five-year old dog, named Buddy, was having a quiet walk with its owner Steve Kingsley, along the coastal path near Studland, Dorset.

The pet chased a rabbit and then fell down the 100ft drop from the cliff edge.

The dog ended up in the sea and tried to get back up the cliff edge for 30ft until Buddy gave up and fell back into the sea.

He then paddled out to sea for an amazing two hours until he was rescued by a couple in an anchored yacht. The couple pulled the dog to safety and fed tired Buddy.

The rescue was complete when a passing jet ski gave the bedraggled spaniel a lift back to the shoreline where he was reunited with his worried owner.
