POLICE IN Japan arrested a man for calling the police and fire brigade a total of 388 times in the space of 14 months.
The man, aged 58, said he was lonely and wanted to make friends. On one occasion 10 fire engines, an ambulance and 35 firemen were sent to his house following one of his prank calls. When he was arrested, he admitted to phoning in hoax fires and is likely to be charged with obstructing the emergency services.
