A ‘week of mourning’ against the government and more austerity is being organised by Portugal’s largest trade union, CGTP, and will take place between December 16 and 20 – a major protest is then scheduled for the 19th in Belém, Lisbon.
Led by CGTP leader Arménio Carlos, demonstrators are planning to gather outside the Presidency of the Republic (Belém Palace) from 6.30pm to call for the suspension of proposed wage and pension cuts, and the increase of the national minimum wage.
